About the Game

4.5 out of 5 stars - MeAndMyDroid.com

Deadly Dungeons
is a first person Android RPG developed exclusively for the Android platform.  This Android RPG is influenced by classic dungeon crawler games such as Dungeon Hack, Eye of the Beholder, and Nethack.  Your purchase supports indie games development.

After being separated from your adventuring party, you must navigate a deadly dungeon, and fight your way through hordes of creatures in a desperate attempt to escape alive.  What first begins as a simple escape to the surface turns into a fight for survival, a confrontation with an ancient evil, and a descent to hell itself.

Deadly Dungeons Android RPG features several difficulty levels.  Casual, an easy mode that features a god-mode that allows you to play through the game quickly without fear of dying.  Normal, a standard gameplay mode with death and saving and loading.  Hardcore, a permadeath mode which deletes your save game upon death (not for the faint of heart).  Nightmare, an extremely difficult mode with permadeath and creatures that move twice as fast as normal.

Once you beat the game, it doesn't end there.  Start a new game and the dungeon scales to your current player level and features more difficult creatures with enhanced abilities.  There are 80+ creature levels of variation featuring over 80 different types of attacks creatures can perform.  Beware, the game starts off easy for casual players, but play beyond the initial starting level, and you will be met with challenges that are likely beyond your ability.

Other features include:

  • Massive and deadly dungeon environments to adventurer through.
  • Randomly generated dungeon levels, creatures, and items.
  • Pages worth of dialog, journal entries, and environmental descriptions of the dungeon environment.
  • First-person dungeon crawling rendered using OpenGL ES.
  • Touch-based interface.

By purchasing Deadly Dungeons through Android Marketplace or Amazon App Store, you will receive all future updates and expansions for the game.  This Android RPG is continuously developed.

Visit the forums and provide feedback for the game.  This Android RPG is being developed using input from people who play the game.  Have an idea for a feature you would like to see in Deadly Dungeons?  Just let us know and we will consider it.

Jacob Ensign - Project Lead

Jacob has been a long-time fan of PC and CRPG games. His favorite games include Nethack, Fallout 1 and 2, System Shock 2, Diablo, Doom, Daggerfall, Duke Nukem 3d, Tomb Raider, and Left 4 Dead. He coordinates development and is the sole programmer for the entire game.

Philip Beal - Designer

Philip is a fan of first-person dungeon crawlers such as the Might and Magic series of games. He designed a majority of the combat system and creature traits for Deadly Dungeons. He also designed the static boss areas and dialog. Lots of great ideas, many of which may take some time to add into Deadly Dungeons as development continues into the future.

Micha Hoeylaerts - Artist

Website - http://www.michahoeylaerts.com/

Micha Hoeylaerts is a talented fantasy artist. His work is top-notch, and his creature design is phenomenal. He can take a short description of a creature and turn it into reality. His texture work is also very impressive. The quality matches content typically found in AAA titles such as the Warcraft series of games.

Syama Pedersen - 3d Modeler

Syama Pedersen is an excellent 3d modeler and animator. He created all of the 3d creature models found in Deadly Dungeons. His work is impressive, and I would stand behind his ability and commitment to get things done for any project. Recent work he has done includes the Astartes Project.

Martin Lande - Musician

Website - http://mordi.ziphoid.com/

A famed and award-winning C64 and Amiga game remixer. He is probably one of the most talented remixers when it comes to creating variations of a tune. This is very important for game music tracks. I must say, the music he has created for Deadly Dungeons is sheer genius. You can find most of his works playing on streaming game remix stations such as the ones at rainwave.cc.

Jillian Hurst - Writer

Jillian is a very talented writer. She is a fan of fantasy novels, RPGs, and MMORPGs. She wrote the short stories that Deadly Dungeon\'s storyline is based off of. The difference between the presentation of a game\'s story and short stories meant that there had to be some translation from one median to another. Yet, much of the same feeling has been preserved between the original source material and the game\'s story.

Guide

Deadly Dungeons features a unique, classless leveling system.  The skills, abilities, and spells can be selected and combined to create custom characters.  It is similar to a talent-based system, but talents are not exclusive to any predefined class.

At each level, the player allocates 5 points between the 4 attributes: strength, endurance, agility, and magic.  Then, they may allocate a single point in a skill, ability, or spell.  With the right build a person create a character that fits within the boundaries of a classic rpg class such as a barbarian, warrior, paladin, cleric, druid, mage, shaman, ranger, or spellsword.

This system is meant to be highly configurable and easy to extend.  Here is a listing of all the skills, abilities, and spells available at release:
