Deadly Dungeons News
Deadly Dungeons Beta 0.8.2 went well. The beta was downloaded more than 200 times, and the game worked on nearly all Android devices tested on. The only exception was some display issues on the Entourage Pocket Edge.
I've made a list of all of the issues and changes requested for 0.8.2. I will be working to address these for the next release which will likely be sometime in February. The final beta release will be a release candidate. Once testing is completed with the final beta, and all issues are fixed, the game will be uploaded to the Android Marketplace.
Deadly Dungeons will have a paid full version. The full version will have access to all updates and expansions that come in the future. There will also be a lite version that will be released a bit later which will consist of the first campaign with saving and loading disabled. The lite version will allow a person to try the game before they buy it.
I will also look into providing a pay-what-you-want download from the website itself. Though, the number of downloads would likely be limited on this option. This is mainly for those without access to the Android Marketplace, or for people who live in other regions.
Temple Level Play Through
I have recorded and posted a new video of me playing through a Temple level. I was mainly testing the multi shot ability for bows, but the video also acts as a good demonstration of basic gameplay. What is missing that I'm currently working on is some spell slots on either side of the screen. There will be two on the left, and two on the right. These spell slots will be used to drop spells and abilities into so they can be cast or activated.
Skills and Abilities and Spells
Deadly Dungeons will feature a unique, classless leveling system. The skills, abilities, and spells can be selected and combined to create custom characters. At release, there will be 32 skills, abilities, and spells to level up your character with. It is similar to a talent-based system, but talents are not exclusive to any predefined class.
At each level, the player will be able to allocate 5 points between the 4 attributes: strength, endurance, agility, and magic. Then, they may allocate a single point in a skill, ability, or spell. With the right build a person create a character that fits within the boundaries of a classic rpg class such as a barbarian, warrior, paladin, cleric, druid, mage, shaman, ranger, or spellsword.
This system is meant to be highly configurable and easy to extend. If anyone has any ideas for extra talents, then by all means share them. Here is a listing of all the skills, abilities, and spells that will be available at release:
Circle of Flame
Beta testing for Deadly Dungeons will start November 29th, 2010. Everyone who has emailed us in the last month for the alpha test will receive the beta test by email at that time. For those that have recently sent an email to do some testing, we tend to send out a test every 3 weeks or so. If you haven't heard anything back from your email, then don't worry, you will receive a beta version to test out.
The majority of the game will be implemented for the beta version. Though, there will still be some elements missing from the final release version. It is my hope that the game will play well on all Android devices version 1.5 and up. Currently, the game has played well on about 15 different Android devices which even included an Android Tablet.
New screenshots of the Android RPG, Deadly Dungeons, have been uploaded. The screenshots show the new interface art created by Micha Hoeylaerts. Also, the temple and crypt levels can be seen along with some of the creatures found in the later levels.
