That way you could see where you are going through your map and wouldn't need to bring it up and down so often. You could leave it up for long stretches of the time, or quite possibly all the time -- I'd have to have one to play with to see if this is what I would default to.

In my last play session I didn't use the big map at all, just the mini map in the corner so I don't have an opinion on opacity for the large map (take not that opacity may reduce framerate). For both maps, I would like some fog-of-war over the area's my character can't currently see. And when I get blinded for the mini-map reflect this status too, like fog out during the blindness duration. The risk with the map is you may spend more time looking at the map than the regular view, so perhaps there should be more incentive added to look at the regular view?
