I don't see myself actually being thrown backwards when this happens.  In any case, I am using a distance weapon -- being thrown back is in my interest.  It's being grappled with that I would have problems with, especially if that made it impossible for me to cast magic spells or shoot a bow.  An attack that silences you might be a good thing, if wizards need to speak to cast spells, or certain spells.  I can see how the laying on of hands might work, but firebolts still require the verbal component ...
