I don't know if this goes here of in the feature request subforum.

I have been messing with DD's directorys and game data, and found that most of game sounds and GFX are editable files (can't remember now, but lets say PNGs).

I'm a Doom game player, and that means that i like game MODs and TCs. Change game look and feeling, and build new and exciting new features to the original game.

I guess if we can have permission to modify and/or replace  those GFX & sound files for whatever content we want, and release it like a DD MOD so other players can enjoy our creation.

If we can have the devel team's permission, there is another problem now: the distribution and installation method: we need a easy way to install the mods to the devices, since actually we need a rooted device (i have mine rooted) to access DD data directory.

In this case, it could be interesting to create a game option to install a MOD from a ZIP file, or just even read the contents of the ZIP'ed MOD file without extracting and overwriting original contents.

And now that i ask for that, i will also ask, if possible, for any kind of scripting engine or game properties engine or file where we can change some game aspects such as monsters scripts, items properties, skills, etc...

Not sure if this can be done or if you even want to implement, but think about Doom game: after 16 years, people still keep playing it, building mods and TCs and creating totally new content to give the game new life and infinite replayability value.

Also some bigger screenies (480x800). Will take more and post'em:

It would actually be quite easy to generate dungeons based on external input.  The dungeon generator I wrote is actually very flexible.  With both random dungeon generation and static dungeon maps, I only have to define the walkable spaces, the entrance, and the exit location.  With that defined, the entire map gets generated automatically.  Placeables, decorations, doors, creatures, etc, are all placed automatically.  For textures, I specify a ceiling, floor, wall, door track, and decorative wall textures.

Now, everything is generated assuming no ramps and walls that are one wall high.  If you have watched some of my early demo videos, you will see that the engine actually supports ramps.  Walls are also two sided and can be any height.  With manual editing, a person could create some pretty interesting maps.  If I add in placeable geometry, then it wouldn't be hard to make levels that look fairly impressive.

Putting together levels is pretty quick.  Unfortunately, content creation is not.  It takes time for textures, new creatures, new items, new music, story, stats, dialog, decorations, etc.

If someone would like to make their own game using my tech, then I could easily license it for that purpose.  Why mod, when you could create your own game and resell it?  I'd have no issue licensing out the tech for that purpose.  Though, there would be a licensing fee or some sort of revenue sharing agreement to go along with that.

But modifying the source code is like making a different game.

Also creating new graphics and sounds is like a challenge to know what we can achieve with the original game engine without the need of programming.

And there is not much people to create a new game based of your original engine, but it's easy and fast to create new GFX/Snd or modify certain game aspects with some kind of scripting.

Also it's nice to see some developer to think about engine flexibility and possible future new features.

I know this is a bit tangential to the topic of this thread, but I would love to see a level editor that lets people cobble together their own level designs from existing content (textures, placeables, etc.). I would definitely pay for an editor.
