Topic : green screen of death

I have a Veriaon Samsung Charge, ver 2.6.35.7-FP1

I have had this happen twice. It started on about my 4th or 5th playthrough. I forgot what level, but it's where you fight the golems and the boss. When I move up to them, the bottom of the screen gets green. There are no buttons to push at all anymore. Can still attack or move if you hit the right spot. It also looks like you are down by their feet. When ever I get far enough away, it goes back to normal. If I move back near any of them, it does it again.

I've tried reloading, tried letting them come to me on the next playthrough. No luck.

I have plenty of ram when I start the game. This is the only place in the game where it does this to me.

Thanks, and great job.

Topic : A few things

What you guys have done on a smartphone is great. I know there has to be some kind of limit to what can be done. But, here goes anyway.

The items are generic. It would be niced to see some unique items. Drain health, crit., flame dam. or prot... Maybe from a special monster or quest.  Unique name.

I read somewhere about branching dungeons. Maybe a side branch that led to a side level with unique boss and item.

Add some new skills and a new interface to set them up.

And don't forget about the high level char. we have saved.

Hope I didn't repeat anything from the other posts.

Great job guys.

When you level up there is a cup in top right hand part of the screen. Touch that and you get to raise your stats and pick skills and spells.

Topic : Saves? Newbie question.

Just got the game and love it but can't see how to save. Or is it automatic? When I'm killed I go back to the start of the dungeon. I'm playing on a Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1.

Trap, that was a bug in the test versions of Deadly Dungeons I sent out. If you update to 1.1.3, then you shouldn't encounter that problem anymore. Just download from the link that was sent out.

Add my thanks too...! I was a huge fan of "Dungeon Master" on the AtariST (which was pretty much the first true 3D RPG of this type... before "Eye of the Beholder", or "Ultima Underworld"), and this really brings back memories.

There's a chance that bashing a door will alert monsters in the area to your presence and send them all after you, but it doesn't seem to be enough of a problem (at least so far) to worry about. My STRength is way higher than my agility, so I keep breaking keys.. to the point where bashing the doors is a better answer.

I had saved the game right at the last fight. After several new games I was level 27 so I figured I would wait for the portal and get the drops. Worked great, and then I started a new game. I had not gone far and leveled up...but then I was getting a level per kill, all the way from 28 to level 80. The exp bar was maxed and never went down. Total exp I have now is 1,688,884,212. Did the exp per level change? or did I get a bug of some kind?

Topic : A long, rambling list of stuff

I understand that the 3d models can slow the game down in several places for slower phones.  A majority of the current generation devices and nearly all of the future Android devices will be capable of playing Deadly Dungeons well.  I'll see what I can do to improve performance so it runs better on slower machines.  Today I decreased the level loading time by half.  There may be something I can do to speed up model rendering.

I need to stay competitive with current titles.  At some point, I will also update the look of the levels.  I implemented everything separately in the code, so changing out graphics for the level will actually have no effect on the game.  I'm trying to do these things when I feel that a majority of people have the devices capable of running the game well.

What I'm trying to do with Deadly Dungeons is develop it as a long-term project much like Nethack.  I will keep adding features, refining existing aspects, and make the game better and better over time.

There are a couple points here that I plan to implement such as the more roguelike elements of traps, puzzles, and other interactive elements.  I am also focusing on interface enhancements and will be adding things like a landscape view.

Thanks for the feedback.

Topic : A long, rambling list of stuff

First of all, I just wanted to say that Deadly Dungeons is by far my favorite Android Game, and easily the best dollar I've ever spent, so thanks!

Congrats on the new 3d models, they look terrific! Unfortunately for me, they also make the game slow down considerably. I'm on a lower end phone (Galaxy Prevail), so I guess this is to be expected. Is there any way to make 2d/3d graphics an option? I know it would probably be a pain to support two different asset sets, but it would greatly help those of us with crap phones!

It seems that I am constantly fighting with the inventory UI. When I want to drag and item to my hotbar, it wants to scroll left/right. When I want to double tap an item, it wants to scroll left/right. I think it hates me.

I haven't started a new character since the latest update, but I know there were a few difficulty spikes that could be ironed out. The first for me was after entering the second room in the game and getting one-shotted after about a second just standing there. I died about 5 or 6 times like that and was starting to get frustrated before I decided to just run away. It worked, and I was able to go on to enjoy the game, but this may be a barrier to new players. The second difficulty spike was on level 15 (of course). The swamp hydra is a fierce and menacing opponent, but getting sandwiched between two of them while a phoenix attacks from offscreen just sucks. Maybe spread things out and let the player get used to these new monsters? I haven't been having as much trouble on level 16, which I started after the update, so maybe you've already addressed this.

I know you've said on this forum that disabling the autosave after leaving a level would be impossible, but having to restart your character because you accidentally went into a door while poisoned is terrible. Maybe you could do a check to see if the player died < 1 second after loading the game, and if they are stuck in a death cycle fix it in some way? Or what about having a safe room every 5 levels and when the player dies, they reappear there? That way they would have to fight their way back down through respawned rooms, but wouldn't be permanently screwed by the save system.

Maybe it's because I have big hands, but I find the movement buttons to be a little cramped at times, and often end up turning when I wanted to go forward. I would love a UI where the movement buttons are spread out along the edges of the screen. For example, to move forward, you would tap the top center portion of the screen, bottom center to move backward, middle left/right to side step, and I guess turning could be in the top corners.

The text on the character screen can be hard to read once you get to level 15 and it is on top of a bright green sky. I would rather have an opaque window cover most of the screen instead (leave the health bar visible so the player can see if they're getting attacked with the screen open), with maybe tabs for character (view stats and status effects), spell book (view spells and assign them to magic buttons), Map, Skills (show current skill levels w/ descriptions), and whatever else you'd want to put on there.

IMO, the dungeon could be a bit more interesting. You've got the monsters, how about traps, puzzles and other interactive elements? A simple crafting system (herb a + herb b = potion c) would be fantastic, and could be fueled by in-dungeon resource points.

Thanks for taking the time to read my overly long and demanding post, and thanks again for creating such a great game, and all the awesome updates. Keep up the good work!

This is the highest level right now. The highest level that different creature types go up to is level 80. I'll probably be changing the higher difficulty levels a bit (hardcore and nightmare) so that better equipment and artifacts are dropped in those difficulties and creatures have higher hp and such.

as the topic asks, is it the highest level you can achieve or will it be increased?

Topic : Character customization, perks, pets and more!

I'm a fan of roguelike games.  I have been thinking about adding some more roguelike features to the game.  These include dungeon branches that feature puzzles and challenges, traps, ambushes in empty areas, limited digging, quests, and other fun things.

I need to finish up some improvements to the UI first, but I'll be sure to add in a couple of these features as I'm doing this.

It would be really cool to have more characters customization options, such as different skills to pick from and level as well as perks that you gain every few levels. Also a more detailed magic system would be cool, and could evolve around this same skill based system also allowing different schools of magic.

Regarding the above, one possible way you could to the starting skills and attributes could be to have positive and negative perks to pick from. Picking negative perks/traits would give you disadvantages of course, but would also give you more skill points which would depend on how severe the disadvantage is.

A pause button would also be cool.

The need to eat food (maybe just in hardcore mode?).

Something else I think would be neat (its possible this exists already, but I haven't seen it yet) is some levels that have large ceiling or different scenery to mix up the surroundings a little. Completely surprising locations like an underground river with a pirate ship and pirates, or a space ship that will take you to the moon level. I'm a big fan of rare events such as these in game, I think they add a lot to the experience.

A random type of pet that you may randomly happen across in the dungeon would be cool also, especially in hardcore mode, I'd be attached for sure!

Random wacky NPC's that you may meet every once in a while, or just super random, very rare events that (as I mentioned earlier) that offer some kind of penalty or reward (if you didn't guess already, I'm a big fan of Nethack lol!)

Just some of my thoughts. But don't get the wrong idea!! I love this game already, just some stuff I'd love to see that I think would make your game unforgettable!

Ahhhhh.. Thank you!! :-) I never used this button for a game before, thats the first time! I've another question. When I use my finger to scroll the dungeon environment up and down, how can I adjust the window to the middle again? Is there a sepcial button or its necessary to calibrate this manually? That wouldn't be so good, its very cumbersome. Thank You.

1. I'll see what I can do to improve the overlapping.  I found that cutting the background music out completely is too harsh of a change.  Perhaps I can fade out or drop the audio down to about 10-15%.

2. You are likely stunned or paralyzed.  One of the interface enhancements will be to add status icons for certain effects.

3. Your stats are good for physical defense, but you are likely lacking sufficient magical defense.  You can find magic resistance gear to help with this.  Having high END and MAG also helps.

Zebo can teleport around freely.  You will see him in several spots throughout the game.

Topic : Tapping Instructions?

Development is now going to focus on adding interface enhancements, gameplay enhancements, and a couple tutorial features.

1. I need to change several buttons to change state on touch down and then activate on touch up.

2. For equipable items, I should have a button for equipping.  Double tap is handy, but people who are new to the game would likely prefer buttons that tell them what can be done with items.

3. You can double tap to equip potions.  The drag and drop can likely be improved, but I'll have to play around with it a bit.

4. I'll need to cover targeting in a tutorial.

What I will likely do for the tutorial is extend the starting level.  The player will be able to take one of two paths.  One path just ends up at the starting location.  The other path will take them through some tutorial segments.
